Ah, a remote meeting. That's the new norm today that's become a standard way of working. In the absence of a business trip, the remote meeting usually starts with a well-optimised schedule. The result is sometimes in line with that. Did you recognise yourself from this? Good. We've put together a short checklist to make an uncomfortable remote meeting a memory. Can you hear me? The problem is usually caused by a remote meeting room or a poor internet connection. Taking into account the issues listed below will significantly improve the quality of the remote meeting.
Recommended technique:
- A fixed internet connection, i.e. a network cable attached to the computer
- Headset (headset-microphone combination)
- The latest version of the operating system and software
Recommendations for the location:
- Adequate lighting. Best results if the face is given extra light.
- No window or other light source directly behind.
- Camera at eye level.
- As quiet and anechoic as possible.
The best sound quality is achieved not so much with a slower microphone, but with a microphone solution where the distance between the mouth and the microphone is fixed. Read the instructions for your device. Microphones in particular may have one small button that, if in the wrong position, will give you a less than desirable experience.
